Levofloxacin

Composition

Each ml contains Levofloxacin (as Hemihydrate) USP 100 mg.

Description

Leovet is a third-generation fluoroquinolone bactericidal antibiotic effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Following oral administration, it is rapidly and almost completely absorbed. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of bacterial DNA replication through the targeting of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes.

Indications

Poultry:

Leovet is indicated for the treatment of chronic respiratory disease, complicated chronic respiratory disease, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, infectious coryza, and necrotic enteritis.
The formulation is additionally used for the prevention and treatment of secondary bacterial infections following viral infections such as Ranikhet and Gumboro.

Dosage & Administration

Route of Administration: Oral via drinking water.

Poultry: 1 ml per 1–2 L of drinking water for 3–5 days.

Or as directed by the registered veterinary physician.

Interaction

With medicine: NSAID and corticosteroids enhance the toxicity of fluoroquinolones. With feed and food: Supplements containing aluminium, magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc may form chelate with fluoroquinolone antibiotics and thereby prevent absorption.

Contraindications

Should not be administered in poultry hypersensitive to Levofloxacin.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Safety in pregnancy and lactation has not been established.

Precautions & Warnings

Discontinue immediately if signs and symptoms of hepatitis, pain, or inflammation in tendon occur.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from direct sunlight. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.

Withdrawal Period

Meat: 8 days and Egg: duration not established must not be consumed after administration.
