Ivermectin
Composition
Each ml solution contains Ivermectin BP 10 mg.
Description
Parasitin-Vet contains ivermectin, a member of the macrocyclic lactone class of endectocides, which possess a unique mode of action. Compounds of this class bind selectively and with high affinity to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels present in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells. This binding leads to an increased cell membrane permeability to chloride ions, resulting in the hyperpolarization of nerve or muscle cells, which causes paralysis and death of the parasite. Furthermore, compounds in this class may interact with other ligand-gated chloride channels, such as those gated by the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). The high margin of safety associated with this class of compounds is attributable to the absence of glutamate-gated chloride channels in mammals, the low affinity of macrocyclic lactones for other mammalian ligand-gated chloride channels, and their inability to readily cross the blood-brain barrier.
