Florfenicol

Composition

Each ml contains Florfenicol INN 300 mg.

Description

Amflor Vet contains florfenicol, a synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. As a fluorinated derivative of chloramphenicol, florfenicol functions as a bacteriostatic antibiotic by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit.

Indications

Cattle:

Amflor Vet is indicated for the prevention and treatment of respiratory tract infections in bovine due to Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella maltocida, and Histophilus somni.
The formulation is additionally used for bovine interdigital phlegmon, including foot rot, acute interdigital necrobacillosis, and infectious pododermatitis.

Pigs:

Amflor Vet is also indicated for the treatment of acute outbreaks of respiratory disease in pigs.

Dosage & Administration

Route of Administration: IM or SC injection in neck (max 10 ml/site for cattle, 3 ml/site for swine).

Cattle (SC): 2 ml/15 kg body weight as a single dose (or 40 mg/kg in neck).
Cattle (IM): 1 ml/15 kg body weight; repeat 48 hours later.
Swine (IM): 1 ml/20 kg body weight twice at a 48-hour interval.

Or as directed by the registered veterinary physician.

Interaction

With medicine: Florfenicol may antagonize the action of Erythromycin, Clindamycin, Lincomycin & Tylosin, etc. Flunixine may antagonize the action of NSAIDs or corticosteroids. With feed & others: Not known

Contraindications

Contraindicated in animals hypersensitive to Florfenicol.

Side Effects

Common side effects: Anorexia, decreased water consumption, or diarrhoea may occur. Rare side effects: None reported.

Pregnancy & Lactation

The effects of Florfenicol on bovine reproductive performance, pregnancy, and lactation have not been determined. However, risk and necessity should be considered during administration of medicine in pregnant and lactating animals.

Precautions & Warnings

Do not use in calves to be processed for veal.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from direct sunlight. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.

Withdrawal Period

Cattle — IM: Meat: 28 days; SC: Meat: 38 days; Milk: Withdrawal period not established. Swine — Meat: 18 days.
