Composition

Bovixon Vet 1 gm IM Injection: Each vial contains Ceftriaxone 1 gm (as sterile Ceftriaxone Sodium USP).

Bovixon Vet 2 gm IM Injection: Each vial contains Ceftriaxone 2 gm (as sterile Ceftriaxone Sodium USP).

Description

Bovixon Vet Injection is a sterile, broad-spectrum, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for intramuscular and intravenous administration. The bactericidal activity of ceftriaxone results from the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Ceftriaxone exhibits a high degree of stability in the presence of penicillinases and cephalosporinases produced by both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.

Indications

Livestock:

Bovixon Vet is indicated for the treatment of a wide variety of infections caused by sensitive gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic organisms.
The formulation effectively treats respiratory tract infections including broncho-pneumonia and pneumonia.
It is additionally used for mammary gland infections such as mastitis.
The product provides relief from urogenital tract infections including metritis, pyometra, nephritis, and cystitis.
It successfully manages gastrointestinal infections such as calf scours, enteritis, and diarrhea.
The solution addresses skin and soft tissue infections including external wounds and abscesses.
It is further utilized for bone and joint infections such as arthritis.
The treatment covers otitis externa, media, and interna.
The injection is also effective for managing actinobacillosis, actinomycosis, hemorrhagic septicemia, black quarter, anthrax, foot rot, dermatophilosis, infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis, salmonellosis, brucellosis, enterotoxaemia, and meningitis.
It is deployed to prevent post-operative infections.
The preparation helps prevent secondary bacterial infections following viral illnesses such as foot and mouth disease, ephemeral fever, and peste des petits ruminants.

Dosage & Administration

Route of Administration: Deep IM or slow IV injection only.

Cattle & Buffalo: 1 g/100 kg body weight (10 mg/kg) once or twice daily for 3–5 days.
Calves: 0.5 g/50 kg body weight (10 mg/kg) once or twice daily for 3–5 days.
Goat & Sheep: 0.5 g/25 kg body weight (20 mg/kg) twice daily for 3–5 days.
Horse: 1 g/40 kg body weight (25 mg/kg) twice daily for 3–5 days.
Dog & Cat: 0.5 g/20 kg body weight (25 mg/kg) once or twice daily for 3–5 days.
Zoo Animals: 1 g/100 kg body weight (10 mg/kg) daily for 3–5 days.

Interaction

Macrolide antibiotic should not be used with Chloramphenicol, Tylosin, or the Lincosamides.

Side Effects

Florfenicol is generally well tolerated. But a decrease in food and water consumption and transient softening of the faeces or diarrhoea may occur during the treatment period. The treated animals recover quickly and completely upon termination of treatment.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Bovixon vet injection can be used safely during pregnancy. Low concentration of Ceftriaxone is excreted through milk; caution should be exercised when Ceftriaxone is administered to a lactating animal. However, risk and necessity should be considered during administration in pregnancy.

Precautions & Warnings

Do not administer 1% Lidociane dissolved injection by IV route. Do not administer water-for-injection dissolved injection by the IM route. If any particle is visible in vial after dissolving the contents, please do not use.

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool and dry place. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
