Carprofen
Composition
Description
Doloryl Vet (carprofen) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) possessing anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. Carprofen acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme. A single dose has been shown to reduce prostaglandin E2 production and inflammatory exudate, alongside the inhibition of leukotriene B4.
Indications
Cattle:
Dosage & Administration
Route of Administration: Oral administration only.
For postoperative pain control: Provide approximately 2 hours before the procedure.
Or as directed by the registered Veterinarian.
Interaction
With Medicine: Carprofen should not be administered simultaneously with other NSAIDs or any other Corticosteroids. With feed & other: Not known
Contraindications
Animals with cardiac, renal, or hepatic disease; where there is the possibility of gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding, hypersensitivity to the drug; treatment with other NSAIDs concurrently or within 24 hours; racehorses prior racing; pregnant mares.
Side Effects
Common side effects: Prolonged use may cause gastrointestinal lesions, inappetence, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Rare side effects: None reported.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The safety of Carprofen in pregnant and lactating animals has not been established. However, risk and necessity should be considered during administration of this medicine in pregnant and lactating animals.
Precautions & Warnings
Caution with use in animals less than 6 weeks of age or aged animals; avoid use in dehydrated, hypovolaemic or hypotensive patients; avoid concurrent, potentially nephrotoxic drugs.
Storage Conditions
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from direct sunlight. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
Meat: Must not be consumed for 21 days, and Milk: Must not be consumed for 0 days after administration.
