Bromhexine

Composition

Bolus: Each bolus contains Bromhexine Hydrochloride BP 100 mg.

WSP: Each gram contains Bromhexine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg.

Description

A-Cold Vet contains bromhexine hydrochloride, a mucolytic agent that acts on mucus by degrading the structure of mucopolysaccharide fibers, making phlegm less viscous and thinner to facilitate expectoration. It is also effective for the treatment of amniotic fluid aspiration and pneumonia in newborn calves.

Indications

Livestock:

A-Cold Vet is indicated for the treatment of respiratory disorders associated with productive cough in livestock, dogs, cats, and pigs.
The formulation is additionally used for complicated chronic respiratory diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, infectious bronchitis, laryngotracheitis, and infectious coryza.
It also provides relief from influenza, pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, rhinitis, and cough.

Dosage & Administration

Route of Administration: Oral

Bolus:

Cattle: 50 mg/kg body weight (1 bolus/200 kg) once daily for 5 days.
Horse: 20–40 mg/kg body weight (1 bolus/250–500 kg) once daily.
Dogs: 2 mg/kg body weight (½ bolus/25 kg) twice daily for 5 days.
Cats: 1 mg/kg body weight once daily for 7 days.
Pigs: 20–50 mg/kg body weight (1 bolus/200–500 kg) once daily for 5 days.

WSP:

Poultry: 1 g/4–5 L drinking water once daily for 5–7 days.
Cattle: 1 g/20 kg body weight once daily for 5 days.
Dogs: 2 g/10 kg body weight twice daily for 5 days.
Cats: 1 g/10 kg body weight once daily for 7 days.
Pigs: 0.2–0.5 g/10 kg body weight once daily for 5 days.

Or as directed by the Veterinary Physician.

Interaction

Bromhexine hydrochloride may be used concomitantly with antibiotics, sulfonamides, and bronchodilators. It may increase the bioavailability of oxytetracycline, spiramycin, tylosin, erythromycin, ampicillin, doxycycline, amoxicillin, and cefuroxime. No interactions with feed have been reported.

Contraindications

Bromhexine Hydrochloride is contraindicated in animals hypersensitive to it.

Side Effects

Common side effects: Headache, dizziness, sweating, and skin rash. Rare side effects: A transient rise in serum aminotransferase values may be seen.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Bromhexine Hydrochloride crosses the placental barrier. Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to pregnancy, fetal development, parturition, or postnatal development. However, risk and necessity should be considered during administration in pregnant and lactating animals.

Precautions & Warnings

Do not use in cases of pulmonary oedema.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from direct sunlight. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.

Withdrawal Period

Meat: Must not be consumed for up to 1 day & Pigs: Zero (0) days. Milk: Should not be used in cattle producing milk for human consumption.
