Composition

Each ml contains Prednisolone Sodium Phosphate USP 20 mg and Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate BP 4 mg.

Description

Corticosteroids affect numerous steps in the inflammatory pathway to inhibit transcription factors that control the synthesis of pro-inflammatory mediators, including macrophages, eosinophils, lymphocytes, mast cells, and dendritic cells. Prednisolone acts promptly with an intermediate duration of action of 8 to 18 hours, and Dexamethasone acts as a long-acting agent lasting 36 hours or more, though its effect becomes apparent within a few hours.

Indications

Livestock:

Steron Vet Plus is indicated for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases including mastitis, endometritis, arthritis, polyarthritis, laminitis, dermatitis, and bronchitis.
The formulation is additionally used for metabolic diseases, shock, and allergy.
It provides supportive therapy for insect bites, snakebites, shipping fever, and retained placenta.
The product is further utilized for the induction of parturition, immunosuppressive conditions, and nervous system disorders.
It is also applied in blood calcium reduction and cancer therapy.

Dosage & Administration

Route of Administration: IV, IM, or SC injection only.

Cattle: 2–4 ml per animal via IV, IM, or SC.
Goat & Sheep: 0.5–1.5 ml per animal via IM or SC.
Dog & Cat: 0.1–0.3 ml per animal via IM or SC.
Horse: 3–5 ml per animal via IV or IM.

Follow-up Treatment: Repeat after 2–5 days depending on severity.

Adverse Effects: Chronic use of Prednisolone and Dexamethasone can cause growth retardation, gastrointestinal ulcers, and lethargy.

Interaction

With medicine: Using with other anti inflammatory medicines concurrently or within 24 hours may lead to GI ulcers. It may also diminish immune response when used after live vaccinations. With feed and food: No known interaction was found with feed.

Contraindications

Prednisolone and Dexamethasone are generally considered contraindicated in systemic fungal infections and animals suffering from osteoporosis. Do not use in animals hypersensitive to Prednisolone and Dexamethasone.

Side Effects

Common: Vomiting, nausea, weakness, lethargy, panting, and increased urination are commonly seen. Rare: Gastrointestinal ulceration may occur. Glucocorticoids may retard the growth of young and growing animals.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Corticosteroids used with Aspirin, it reduces salicylate blood levels. Used with NSAIDs may increase risk. Abortion may occur in pregnant animals.

Precautions & Warnings

It should not be used alone in the treatment of adrenal insufficiency and should not be used in animals sensitive to Glucocorticoids.

Store below 25°C in a dry place. Protect from direct sunlight. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.

Withdrawal Period

Meat: duration not established and Milk: 0 days must not be consumed after administration.
