Composition
Each bolus contains Sulphamethoxazole BP 1000 mg and Trimethoprim BP 200 mg.
Indications
Animals:
Cotrim-Vet is indicated for the treatment of infections of the urinary, respiratory, and genital tracts, as well as skin and wound infections and other bacterial infections.
The formulation is additionally used for the treatment of actinobacillosis, actinomycosis, coccidiosis, mastitis, canine ehrlichiosis, oral necrobacillosis, infectious foot rot, and necrotic rhinitis.
It is further utilized for metritis, infectious keratitis, infectious polyarthritis, post-abortion conditions, pneumonia, salmonellosis, toxoplasmosis, bronchitis, diarrhea, and bronchopneumonia.
Dosage & Administration
Route of Administration: Oral with food or drinking water.
Cattle & Horse: 30 mg/kg body weight (or 1 bolus/40 kg body weight) daily.
Calf, Sheep & Goats: 30 mg/kg body weight daily for 5–7 days.
Contraindications
Cotrim Vet should not be administered to ruminants with a functioning rumen to avoid possible disturbance of the ruminal flora. It is also contraindicated in animals with severe hepatic or renal insufficiency and blood disorders.
Side Effects
Frothing and salivation can follow oral dosing in cats. Folate deficiency may occur during prolonged treatment in animals.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Risk of haemolysis and kernicterus in calves treated with this drug.
Precautions & Warnings
For animal use only. Adequate fluid intake should be ensured during therapy.
